Checking In with the Most Important Person - You!
We’ve all heard the New Year’s cliches - "Out with the old, in with the new”, "New year, new me!", "Turning a new leaf" and so on. Creating meaningful change starts with clearing the clutter in your life, discarding what no longer fits or serves, to create space for new perspectives, possibilities and personal growth. Choose what happens next with clarity.
During my sessions with coaching clients, I provide a unique set of tools and exercises to help look at your life from this perspective. I’ll share some keynotes with you!
Take inventory of what is working and not working for you.
Create clarity by taking an honest look at where you are now and where you want to be. If you’re too focused on where you’re going, it’s easy to get lost, and miss the signs. Sometimes, it’s in our best interest to change direction and go down a different path that may better serve us. A personal detour to realign and re-focus.
Follow what energizes you
Recognize the things that bring you energy vs. those that deplete you. That doesn’t always mean working. Oftentimes in not working, we are setting ourselves up for more success, creativity, and energy in our work.
Take note of times where you’ve felt complete involvement in an activity, a sense of euphoria like time is standing still. Look for places in your day-to-day activities and make a list. Prioritize doing more of these things. When we come from a place of energy and clarity, our goals are easier to achieve.
Imagine a “future you”
When considering your best path, imagine a “future you” (1 year, 3 years or 5 years from now). This “you” is confident, wise, inspired and energized. From the perspective of that future self, what’s the best path for you right now? Where do you need to focus? Ask yourself: How would it change your life to achieve those goals? And what’s currently standing in your way? This exercise will help you dream bigger.
Get curious about your failures
Take note of any setbacks, roadblocks and failures. They are often the universe forcing you to question yourself and grow. By simply getting curious about our failures, we break the unproductive cycle of self-judgment, or beating ourselves up. When something doesn’t go as planned, instead of resisting or getting upset about it, consider what the lesson may have been. That there is some lesson that is moving you in a direction that’s better for you in this moment.
Trust the process
You may feel like you just emptied the closet or junk drawer to excavate what you want, what you want to trash, and what you want to donate. Uncovering hidden gems and forgotten treasures, and making room for new experiences, perspectives, and personal growth. Everything will feel cleaner and clearer.
